The Conformity Scale (TCS)

How much are you conforming to your environement?

The survey measures different aspects of conforming, including emulating dominant others, following group trends, relying on others’ advice and suggestions, or being easily persuaded.

"A new Conformity Scale was developed to explore this trait within the PAD Temperament Model. Attributes of conforming persons include: emulating dominant others, following group trends, relying on others’ advice and suggestions, or being easily persuaded. Items of the new Conformity Scale were written to include the preceding characteristics. Together, the attributes of conformity, defined here, implied a person’s willingness to be controlled by others. Thus, conformity was hypothesized to be a strong negative correlate of Trait Dominance.Conformity was defined as involving characteristic willingness to identify with others and emulate them, to give in to others to avoid conflict, and generally, to be a follower rather than a leader in terms of ideas, values, and behaviors."

The following variables are recorded:
  • TCS_statements

Calculation:
TCS_conformity: Average of all items (2, 7, 9, 11 are reverse scored)
Scale is listed as -5 to 5, but final score will be calculated from 0 to 8
0-3: spectrum of ""not conformative""
4: neither conformative nor not confirmative
5-8: spectrum of ""conformative"""
