Perceptions of Green Space Exposure (P-GSE)

Do people perceive access to greenspace?

Perceptions of Green Space Exposure (P-GSE) is a 5-question measure of how much greenspace people perceive in their neighborhoods. This survey can be used to explore relationships between perceived greenspace and variables like mental health, ability to focus, and physical activity. Past research suggests that people who reported more concern about the environment also reported perceiving more greenspace in their neighborhoods (Reives et al., 2024).

What data is collected? How is it scored?
The following variables are recorded:
  • PGSE_perceived_greenspace: Higher scores mean participants perceive more greenspace in their neighborhood.
Raw data: 5 questions combined to make 1 variable (perceived greenspace). The variable's score ranges from 0-5.

Calculation:
The score is determined by averaging the scores of the 5 questions. The Likert scale ranges from 0 ("completely disagree") to 5 ("completely agree"), so the average of the scores will also range from 0-5.
  • PGSE_perceived_greenspace: Average of questions 1-5
