Adolescent Food Habits Checklist (AFHC)

Do people have healthy food habits?

The Adolescent Food Habits Checklist (AFHC) is a 23-question measure of the the quality of young people's diets. The questions measure one variable: healthy food habits. This survey can be used to explore relationships between healthy food habits and variables like physical activity, focus/concentration, or stress. Past research suggests that adolescents who perceived more positive parenting behaviors in their families also report more healthy food habits (Morton et al., 2012).

What data is collected? How is it scored?
The following variables are recorded:
  • AFHC_healthy_food_habits: Higher scores mean participants have healthier food habits.
Raw data: 23 questions broken into 1 variable (healthy food habits). The variable's score ranges from 0-23.

Calculation:
The score is determined by adding up the "healthy" responses. Because there are 23 True or False questions, the score will range from 0-23.

  • AFHC_healthy_food_habits: Participants receive one point for each "healthy" response. The final score is adjusted for "not applicable" and missing responses using the formula: AFHC score=no of ‘healthy’ responses×(23/no. of items completed).
